Guidelines to Answered Prayer

Barriers which hinder our prayers to God.

  • Sin and unrighteousness
    Isaiah 59:2-3
    But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
    And your sins have hidden His face from you,
    So that He will not hear.
    3 For your hands are defiled with blood,
    And your fingers with iniquity;
    Your lips have spoken lies,
    Your tongue has muttered perversity. (NKJV)
  • Unbelief
    Matthew 13:58
    Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (NKJV)
  • Lack of knowledge
    Hosea 4:6
    My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
    Because you have rejected knowledge,
    I also will reject you from being priest for Me;
    Because you have forgotten the law of your God,
    I also will forget your children. (NKJV)
  • Slothfulness
    Romans 12:11

Barriers which hinder God's response to our prayers

  • Sin
    Joshua 7:10-12
    10 So the LORD said to Joshua: "Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face? 11 Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff. 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.(NKJV)

    Psalm 66:18
    If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. (NKJV)

    Proverbs 1:23-29
    23 Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 Because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, (NKJV)

  • Unbelief
    Matthew 17:20
    So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. (NKJV)

    Matthew 21:22
    And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive." (NKJV)

    Mark 9:23
    Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." (NKJV)

    Mark 11:23-24
    23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will come to pass, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. (NKJV)

    John 2:21-22
    21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body. 22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said. (NKJV)

    Hebrews 11:6
    But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (NKJV)
